Swiss Cheese Fondue Recipe

Need a meal idea for a great evening with friends? This Swiss cheese fondue recipe is easy to make. It yields about 4 cups of fondue and will certainly please all cheese lovers!

You can relax, sip wine and dip pieces of French baguette, cooked potatoes, steamed vegetables, Granny Smith apple slices, cooked sausage, shrimp or pepperoni, and even pickles in this deliciously creamy fondue that contains three Swiss cheeses and white wine.

No wonder cheese fondue is Switzerland's national dish!

Don't have a fondue pot?

Swiss Cheese Fondue Recipe

225 g(1/2 lb) Appenzeller Cheese, Shredded
225 g(1/2 lb) Gruyère Cheese, Shredded
225 g(1/2 lb) Emmenthal Cheese, Shredded
30 ml(2 Tbsp) Cornstarch, Divided (1 Tbsp X 2)
20 ml(4 tsp)Cherry Brandy
500 ml(2 cups) Dry White Wine
0.5 ml (1/8 tsp)Ground Nutmeg
1 ml (1/4 tsp)Paprika
0.5 ml (1/8 tsp) Cayenne Pepper

1. Combine the three Swiss cheeses in a large bowl, along with 1 Tbsp of cornstarch. Mix well.

2. In a small bowl, mix the remaining cornstarch with the cherry brandy and set aside.

3. In a large saucepan (or in your cheese fondue pot), heat wine over medium eat until it's almost boiling.

4. Reduce heat to medium-low and add the shredded cheese mixture, one handful at a time. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon and continue adding cheese, letting it melt between handfuls.

5. Incorporate the cornstarch/brandy mixture and remaining ingredients to the pot. Stir until well mixed and smooth. If the mixture is too hard, add wine. If the mixture is too soft, add cheese.

6. Transfer to fondue pot (or reduce heat to low if you prepared it in your fondue pot).

7. Dip bite-sized pieces of bread, cooked meat or vegetables.
